Can we remember back to our own birth?

I can remember back to less than one year. My mother had a bottle while I was at my parents' bed and my father tried to reassure me in becoming calm. How far back we can really go without hypnosis? Is there anyway to verify or establish an early childhood memory? I think you can say that sure to be born, but if there is a tape of the performance, it makes it look fake.

I can not give you a definite answer to this. It is actually a controversial issue among developmental scientist. Some believe that because the hippocampus (the structure that helps you to remember events and conditions) not fully developed in its infancy, it is impossible to remember the birth. You start at ground zero and you are not able to actually retain information on long term until later stages of development. But the emotional memory is indeed fully developed at birth. (So maybe if your birth was very traumatizing enough you will remember it — Lol) Others believe that the ability to recall begins in womb — allows the child to recognize his / her mother voting when they are born or even recognize a song she sang while pregnant. Personally I'm torn on the issue right now, but I keep on the premise that anything is possible. Since your mind is like one big memory bank, I think it is possible that the experience of childbirth may be somewhere in the lower regions of our minds (if your memory is just that my instant food supply has just been interrupted, your security bubble popped, it is cold, or that some strange things just hit me for no good reason) I have not heard of any cases of memory birth without hypnosis. Most people probably will not remember before the age of 3, without the help of hypnosis, unless a traumatic event or something left a big influence on them in a earlier age (you are probably an expectation that the rule — kudos to you for using those neurons … lol). No, there is no real way to prove or verify an early childhood memory or for that matter, unless you have witnesses or other evidence to confirm the incident. The human mind is so cunning that it can even record a false event and save as a memory — and a person would think that it happened when they probably read it, heard it several times, or so it elsewhere. Amazing is not it? Good question … You get a star … wooo hoo!
