self hypnosis effectiveness

If you think you know what defines the depth of hypnosis, you are most likely wrong. The current "wisdom" among Hypnos experts is that the reduction of brain waves or the ability to produce anesthesia, it is hypnotic depth is about. I'm going to disagree much. Being able to measure the neural frequencies (eg, reveal that an item is moved from Beta through Alpha and then Theta) or finding that a medical or dental procedure can be performed without pain or discomfort may be a measure of depth and yet not really define it. Now, before my trusted friends and colleagues start complaining about me again splitting semantic hairs, let me explain.

In 1950's Stage hypnotist and radio personality turned hypnosis medical and dental coach, David Tempelman said that the essential elements of hypnosis is a suspension of critical faculties and the allowance of selective thinking. By studying Tempelman scripts and listen to tapes of his original courses, after many years I came to the epiphany that this is of "selective thinking." Brain wave levels and condition of anesthesia is simply the result of successful hypnosis is not 'essential elements. "

After working with the Gerald Kein, the worlds leading authority on Tempelman hypnotherapy together with my other reviews and writes about Tempelman, I was fascinated with the fact that hypnosis does not require a trance. In fact, I soon came to realize and understand that any result can be had in trance work can nearly always be achieved without a trance induction. Just think of waking hypnosis, for example. Although almost all Tempelman training focuses on short, fast or instant trance induction, rarely makes a full relates back to this hypnotic phenomena.

Trance and relaxation are not equal to hypnosis. It can coexist and light hypnotic process, but it is not a requirements. It is high time that hypnotists (of course apart from the stage hypnosis black most of whom already understand this idea) wakes up from their "trance" and finally learn what hypnosis is about. Let us look at the classic Tempelman Technique.

In its standard protocol Tempelman suggest relaxation, ask the subject to close their eyes then ask them to relax their eyes to the point where they can not open them or ask them to pretend that they can not open them. (The final statement serves both to help them suspend their critical teachers and to begin selective thinking.) follow up on suggestions of physical relaxation, mixing, and mental relaxation are further examples of iterative selectively thinking. My point is that "deeper" issue is the more effective selective thinking becomes. After reading portion begins (to include the use of post hypnotic suggestions) selective thinking involves proposals for the session intention.

What about in Ericksonian hypnosis? If you carefully look at his techniques such as linking and cleavage, confusion, metaphors and sophisticated language patterns, you will see that like Tempelman's suspension of critical Sciences, Erickson's methods also tend to impede the operation of prefrontal cortex. This time enables the therapist to guide the patient through selective thinking. Rivalry between the two champions was probably based too much of ego, pride and semantics rather than on real differences.

Is selective thinking only suggestions? Yes and no. Selective thinking is a process, proposals are content. Therefore, I "suggest" that you see on the status of hypnosis as a sliding variable at a straight line continuum of resistance of the critical faculty (ie "tyranny of the left prefrontal cortex) on one end and extent of effectiveness of selective thinking on the other. As critical dominance decreases, the selective thinking more potent. Any resultant trance, brain wave frequency degradation or anesthesia is only one resulting phenomenon hypnosis instead of a requirement. Looking at it this way allows us to understand the true power of hypnosis. (This is the reason that waking hypnosis is working. It is based on a fast decline – or destruction – the critical sense and an equally rapid development of a high level of selective thinking.)

So why is this important? Do we not get the same results? Again, yes and no. The real power of hypnosis has to do with brain Sector inhibition and triggering or detecting dormant potential and improvement of the mind / body connection. Understanding the potential opportunities that focus on improving the effectiveness of selective thinking intentionally obstruct and / or free up mental and physical phenomenon just may well define the future of hypnosis as a healing art.
