Have you been dieting and dieting and found yourself forever just getting heavier or always going hungry? Do you deprive yourself only to “go off your diet” and then regret it, experiencing feelings of depression and despair? Have you spent a lot of money on diet plans, gym memberships, special foods, supplements, books, only to notice that your credit card bills are bigger, your weight fluctuates as much as your mood, and the only thing that really goes away and stays away is the money you’ve spent on all of that?
Maybe it’s time to go back to the source and ask your body what it wants. Learning how to eat intuitively means learning four simple things:
| |
1. |
|
Body Acceptance. |
| |
2. |
|
Dieting is harmful. |
| |
3. |
|
Eat for nutrition, not for emotional, environmental or social reasons. |
| |
4. |
|
Recognize your body’s signals and respond in a healthy, nurturing way. |
People who eat intuitively are healthier, have a lower body-mass index, lower triglyceride levels, higher levels of high density lipoproteins, and have a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease. They also have much lower incidence of eating disorders and obesity (Stephen Hawks, American Journal of Health Education, November 18, 2005).
